The SAIN (Integrated Agricultural Solidarity) farm is based in the village of Kakanitchoé, in the commune of Adjohoun, in the south-east of Benin. It was created in 1998 and covers 14 hectares. Made up of an educational farm and an eco village, SAIN also supports the self-development of the village. A site for putting agroecological methods into practice, the SAIN farm is a place for learning and developing innovations. There are various species of birds, endangered plant species and the air is pure. The eco village has a few simple and clean rooms, with roofs built from local materials and the terrace of the rooms offers a breathtaking view of the valley! The farm actively participates in the development of the community. She is a source of great pride for the locals. Young people who have dropped out of school in the locality are supported by the farm to be trained in professions related to agriculture and agri-food processing. After the training, they are supported in setting up their own farm. The “One family, one latrine” project aims to encourage and improve the hygiene conditions of the population. The “Access to drinking water” project aims to improve the availability of drinking water through boreholes or wells. Scholarships are granted to disadvantaged young people to enable them to access high schools and universities. As actions for the protection of the environment, the farm has the motto “Communion between man, nature and community”. She sorts her waste and part of it is used to produce gas and compost. The farm is powered by solar panels and borehole water only. The use of synthetic chemicals is prohibited and a networking system with other producers in the village has been set up for the exchange of organic products.
